Bandit 6/2010

Somehow this issue turned into the big motor, high-horsepower issue. When I was growing up, we all wanted a sleeper muscle car. It had to have a clean body without a flashy paint job and a big motor. Randy Edwards of Harrison, OH has a ’98 Road Glide that is a sleeper Bagger. He may have invested more in the paint than we did back in the day, but make no mistake; this Bagger is all about performance.

An initial observation of Randy’s Bagger doesn’t let you know all of the changes that have been made to the bike. What may appear as subtle or simple changes are actually major customizations. Randy’s Bagger was rebuilt from the ground up. The frame has been raked to 40° and the fairing has been lowered four inches and moved one-inch closer to the gas tank. The front and rear fenders have been shaved and smoothed, the saddlebag fillers were custom made and now house Lazer Star lights which function as run, turn and stop lights. The vacuum-operated license plate bracket was custom made and allows the plate open and close under the fender.

Performance Machine wheels have been installed front and rear with matching PM rotors and four-piston calipers. Hi-Lo Rider air suspension was installed to raise and lower the rear end. Even though Randy performed all sorts of body work and fabrications on his Road Glide, it’s still all about the powerful motor. An S&S 124” Evo-styled black powder coated motor to be exact. The exhaust is a RB Racing 124 Challenge Pipe. A Zippers Performance/S&S D2 carburetor supplies the much needed fuel to the big motor, which is rated at 150 horsepower and 150 ft.-lbs. of torque. All 16 body parts on this Road Glide have been painted by Armstrong Designs using House of Kolor – BC25 Black.

Randy Edwards’ Bandit is another great example of a good looking, high performing, Evo-powered Bagger. Make sure you don’t make the mistake of pulling up next to Randy at a red light and revving your motor, because his sleeper Bagger can flat out move.
