Bad Ass Bagger 6/2010

Like most of us, Rick Flanagan didn’t start out on a Bagger. Rick wanted something to ride long distances on when he wasn’t riding his Chopper. The idea was to keep the bike stock; he probably should not have bought a subscription to American Bagger if he wanted his 2007 Street Glide to remain stock.

First up was a Wimmer Super Sucker air cleaner and Bassani 2-into-1 exhaust. At that point Rick thought he was finished, until he read about the new Screamin’ Eagle 110” kit for the 96” motor. It was time to call in the big guns. Rick had Cool Ridz of Herndon, VA perform the top end install.

The 110” kit turned out to be a little bit more involved than a standard Screamin’ Eagle upgrade. About the only parts left from the original motor are the cases, flywheels, connecting rods and lifter blocks. The lower end was given the Zipper’s run through, the cams are Zipper’s Red Shift components, the pushrods are adjustable Zipper’s, the throttle body is a 54mm from Zippers, the heads are Screamin’ Eagle that have been reworked by Zipper’s, and the pistons and cylinders are from Screamin’ Eagle. A ThunderMax Auto Tune manages the air/fuel ratio to help deliver108 horses and 120 ft.-lbs. of torque. At this point, Rick was finished with his customizing, or so he thought.

Rick was now hooked; he wanted a Bagger that was as eye catching as his Chopper. He came up with the name Bad Ass Bagger; this would be the theme of his bike. Alligator Bob created the seat with full-quill ostrich sides and an Italian leather top with custom graphics. The logos were tattooed then painted. CAT, LLC created the matching derby and points covers. Cool Ridz fabricated the rear fender and installed the custom LED lights. The stock wheels were replaced with Renegade Aspen three-piece units, FBI lowers were installed so Rick could go with a solo H-D caliper up front. Handlebars are from Greg’s Custom Cycles with Battistini grips. The headlight is from Adjure and is equipped with a Headwinds Mariah Bezel. Bad Dad supplied the front and rear fenders, extended saddlebags, taillight and license plate mount. Foot controls and floorboards are from Battistini. The sound system has been upgraded with a Hawg Wired amp and Loud Lids saddlebag lids/speakers. Now Rick’s Bagger sounds as good as it looks and vice versa. To make this bike a true Bad Ass Bagger it needed a paint job that would stand out. Jimmy Campbell sprayed the House of Kolor Black Diamond with Kandy Tangerine paint. Now Rick’s Bagger draws a crowd everywhere he goes.

Rick still likes his Chopper and rides it occasionally, but he loves his Bagger and will reluctantly admit that he spends more time riding it.
