Las Vegas Limo 5/2010

When you hear the name Mondo of Denver’s Choppers, sleek custom Baggers don’t jump to mind. I think of rigid frames with Springer front ends. Jim Girard’s Las Vegas Limo Bagger is long, lean and low. It features a classic limo-style paint scheme and it was built by none other than Mondo. It just goes to show that everybody is joining in on the American Bagger craze.

Mondo began with a 95th Anniversary Road King that retains little from its stock configuration, other than some badges. A fire-breathing 124” S&S Evo-style motor has replaced the stock 80” from Harley-Davidson®. A six-speed JIMS transmission keeps the rpm low at highway speed, which keeps that big motor running cooler. The spherical front end is from Perse Performance, which was just acquired by Rooster Custom Cycles; so don’t fret, you can still buy Perse parts.

Mondo modified the swingarm to accept that monster 300mm Avon rear tire. The front end features a one-off 21” wheel from Denver’s that matches the 18” one-off rear wheel. Carlini Design supplied the handlebars which feature Performance Machine grips and hand controls. Dakota Digital made sure that the speed would be visible at over 100 mph. The tank is stock with a severe modification from Mondo and even retains the 95th Anniversary badges. Denver’s Choppers custom made the front and rear fender. The fairing is an Arlen Ness product. That long limousine seat that looks like it could sit three people comfortably was built in-house at Denver’s. On the left side of the bike, in front of the saddlebag and under the side cover, you can see the double-chain drive; which has to be a tribute to Mondo’s Chopper heritage. Owen’s Custom Paint sprayed that classy silver, black and burgundy paint job.

It’s always gratifying when a custom builder who is known for building a specific style of bike, surprises you and goes in a completely different direction. Welcome to the club Mondo, you are now a Baggerite!
